Lekar Hum Deewana Dil

Here’s the latest offering from the Studio Royale - our Bollydelic interpretation of RD Burman’s classic “Lekar Hum Deewana Dil”. Be prepared for more special effects and editing wizardry than you can poke a chicken at! Filmed live at the Revolt artspace in Kensington, Melbourne with audio courtesy of ABC Radio National.

Offshore Radio Theatre present The Bombay Royale

We are playing this coming Friday night as part of the very chic “Offshore Radio” series of events. At the Kelvin Club (Melbourne Place, City), the perfect place to be seen leaning nonchalantly on the bar after your 15th martini. Be spellbound by “La Femme Mysterieuse”! Come and marvel at the Skipper’s range of injuries after his recent bicycle crash! Challenge “the Tiger” to a thumb wrestle to the death!!!

In The Studio

Who said vinyl is dead? You didn’t, right? Neither did I. To celebrate the enduring charm of the 45, the band has been busy in the studio laying down two tracks for an upcoming vinyl release from Hopestreet Recordings. And why not - classic Bollywood and 45s go together like yesterday’s chicken tikka and a particularly frosty glass of locally-brewed yet foreign-owned beer. Good times! Check out the A side below and some footage of the bandits rocking out with their masks off …

“The Bombay Royale” Cocktail Recipe

Okay Crew, I’ve been in the lab all weekend and now need your help/feedback.

Presenting “The Bombay Royale” (the cocktail) …

1 shot whiskey
1 shot malibu
1/2 shot kahlua
2 shots milk
A pinch of Chai Spice

I know some of you are highly qualified in this field so please feel free to contribute any alternative recipes. I feel we may be all on the brink of something big - Cheers, the Skipper.

What’s the opposite of a Reunion?

Chip steals the limelight, again.

So here we are. Goodbye to drinking rum on the beach in sunny Reunion, and hello to the Melbourne winter. But even as we shuffle our way through another windy week in the big smoke, the memories of our time at the Sakifo music festival keep us warm. There was the rocky ride over the clifftops; the hotel pool where we shot our latest video (watch this space!) and of course the volcano where the Skipper went to cheat Death and returned with ear wax instead. The French have been keeping Reunion Island a secret, but the secret’s out now monsieurs. We’ll be back!

The good thing is that we’re finally making our way back to the stage in Melbourne after a hiatus of two months. Next Saturday 9th July at the Empress Hotel in North Fitzroy, a long time supporter of the innovative live music scene. It promises to be a bad-ass party with a bad-ass crowd. Or as my father would say, a “bunch of loose characters.” Either way, make your way down there for some old-school Bollywood funk - you won’t get it anywhere else. Head over to our Facebook page for details …
